Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I join the TEAMS Institute?

    Any student in grades kindergarten through senior may join the Institute. Submit your application (downloadable at right). If a space is available, we will call you to set up an interview with the child and his or her parents. If  enrollment is full, your name will be placed on a waiting list for the program and you will be called when a space becomes available.

  2. What is the age group of students?

    All of the students in our program are between the ages of 5 and 18.

  3. Is the TEAMS Institute an after school program?

    TEAMS Institute is an after-school and summer camp program.

  4. How can this program help my children?

    Students, volunteers and staff who have participated in our programs have reaped benefits such as:
    • decrease in stress levels;
    • a decrease in youth delinquency;
    • an increase in marketable job skills;
    • up to a 60% increase in positive social behaviors and leadership skills;
    • over 50% increase in math, English and science skills; and
    • an over 50% increase in school test scores such as TCAP and Gateway.

  5. What is the curriculum?

    The Institute houses studios for indoor sports, woodworking, tutoring, performing arts, visual arts, technology, copy center, wi-fi, Internet, media, fitness, health, nutrition, and deli café. Classes have included computer, weightlifting, massage therapy, dance, sewing, graphic design, baby sitting, tutoring, boxing, martial arts, test prep, music, television production, pharmacy and acupuncture. Special events include live bands, holiday celebrations, ski ball, air hockey, laser tag, cosmic golf, go karts, arcade games, skating, dancing, poetry slams, karaoke, and movies.

  6. When are the students required to be at the Institute?

    The time may vary depending on their selected activities. General hours of operation are Monday – Thursday, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays once a month from 9 p.m. to 12 midnight.

  7. What is the length of time a student is enrolled?

    Depending on their grade level, students are enrolled in the Institute for one to 12 years. All students may participate until they graduate from high school.

  8. What is the cost to enroll?

    Students from low-income families can apply for tuition scholarships, which will cover the cost of tuition. Work-study plans may also be arranged. Children, Youth and Senior daily rate is $1.00. The Adult daily rate is $2.00.

  9. How are parents involved?

    Parents can use our various studios for fitness and computer time as well as “adult only” travel club opportunities. Parents must attend meetings the first Sunday of every other month and come to their child’s evaluation twice every year.

  10. From whom does the Institute receive its support?

    The institute receives funding from private donations, businesses created by the institute and grants from national and local foundations and the government. The after school movement in Carroll County has received funds from the Tennessee Department of Education, the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth, Tennessee Department of Human Services, and Volunteer Tennessee.
