Mission
The mission of NAPAS seeks to foster the
holistic development of communities,
corporations, couples, congregations and
seminarians by affirming cultural identity,
cultivating professional skills and
facilitating interaction with peers and
mentors.
Vision
Since initial inception, these scholars
of NAPAS created independent chapters across
the country, serving organization such as
the Congress of National Black Churches,
Fortune 500 foundations, community groups as
well as university and theological
seminaries of Ivy League campuses and
others.
Sponsor History
Our sponsoring organization, The National
Alliance of Pan African Seminarians (NAPAS),
was founded in 1979 through support of
notable doctoral scholars at the
Interdenominational Theological Center in
Atlanta, Georgia. The members of our chapter
have executed award-winning workshops,
lectures, capacity building programs,
community development projects and
publications reaching America, Africa and
Europe. We have managed programs and
infrastructure with values as high as $200
million dollars that have served thousands
of women, men and children. We also helped
them increase by as much as 60% their
academic and social skills.
Local History
The movement to educate the children of
McKenzie and Carroll County started in the
1800’s and 1900’s through the efforts of two
prominent citizens of Carroll County,
Professor J.L. Seets, principal of Webb
School (Lane College, 1938) and S.E. Tucker,
superintendent of Carroll County Schools
(1886). These gentleman began educating
students in one room school houses with dirt
floors, moving to free schools, private
schools, institutes, academies and finally
laying the groundwork for the multi
curriculum classrooms constructed with
brick, block and mortar of the present day.
In 2004, their legacy expanded through a
grant award by the Tennessee Department of
Education to begin after school and summer
camp programming. Over one million dollars
in cash, supplies and volunteer time was
donated to the cause of educating our
children. This legacy continues in 2008 with
the opening of the TEAMS Institute.
